A good question and an even better answer
“Why are we so afraid to die?
Are we concerned about the reckoning we may have to face on the other side?
Or does the thought of our non-existence terrify us? Perhaps neither.
Perhaps what we fear most is no longer being able to do the things that we love.”

Sad but true and nobody is doing anything to stop it...
"There's always a moment when the road forks. Each one goes off, thinking the roads will come together again. You see the other person getting smaller and smaller. That's all right. We're made for each other. She'll be there at the end. But at the end only one thing happens. The fucking winter comes. Suddenly you realize that everything is over. Really. You feel it. And then you try to remember at what point it all began. And you discover it started before you thought. Long before. And it's at that moment you realize things only happen once. And no matter how hard you try you'll never feel the same again. You'll never feel again you're three meters above the sky."

Funny reason why Freud dropped hypnosis as his technique
Quote from Case 3, Miss Lucy R (Freud), Studies on Hysteria, Freud & Breuer, 1895:
"Furthermore, I soon began to tire of issuing assurances and commands such as: 'You are going to sleep!...sleep!' and of hearing the patient, as so often happened when the degree of hypnosis was light, remonstrate with me: 'But, doctor, I'm not asleep'"

Finally formulated it!
The most intolerable fact of our existence, our worst narcissistic fear is that "we are not special and can be replaced". (Mitchell as cited by Borossa in "Hysteria", p. 65)
Marriage must have been created to contain this fear?!

Oh, those relationships...
Quotes from "Kinsey" 2004 (great movie, highly recommend)-
1) Kinsey and his wife:
- But I'm not sure I understand. Haven't I always been open to whatever you wanted?
- It's not you, Mac. You're the best partner any man could have.
- I'm just not enough. Is that it?
- Please, Mac. This is inside of me. To what extent, I don't know. But I'd be a hypocrite if I pretended it wasn't there. When I took your history...
- Don't! Don't!
- …didn't you admit to having sexual feelings for other men?
- Don't use that against me!
- I'm sorry. But what keeps you from acting on your feelings? Convention.
- No! It's our marriage! It's our children!
- Exactly. Social restraints.
- Did you ever stop to think that perhaps those restraints are there to keep people from hurting each other? I don't sleep with other men because I love you and I don't want to hurt you.
- But what if it didn't hurt me?
- Then I'd be hurt.
- You're just afraid that I won't love you anymore, which is impossible, Mac. The human animal is capable of all kinds of sexual expression. Not all sex has to be sanctioned by love, enriched by emotion.
- To the Greeks…
- Stop! Stop lecturing, Prok. Stop using science to justify what you've done.
2) Kinsey's assistant:
- What are we to you, Prok? We're just lab rats? Is this just another part of the project to prove that sex, no, no, I’m sorry, fucking, is nothing more than friction and harmless fun? Well, let me tell you, that is a risky game because fucking isn’t just something, it’s the whole thing. And if you are not careful, it will cut you wide open.

Made me smile ruefully...
About Freud
Vienna, 1938
"Having had his money seized and his books burned, before he was allowed to leave, Freud was made to sign a paper saying that he had been well treated. He added beside his signature, 'I can most highly recommend the Gestapo to everyone.' " (Milton et al, 2011. A short introduction to psychoanalysis, p. 46)

Mondegreens. What are they?
Mondegreens are misheard phrases. The term was coined by Sylvia Wright after having misheard 'They have slain the Earl of Moray, and laid him on the green' with 'Lady Mondegreen' in Songs of the North.
